Outernet London has launched its pioneering Public Immersive Audience Measurement System (PIAMS), marking a major step forward in real‑time audience insights for public venues. This innovative platform, developed in collaboration with Virgin Media O2 Business and spatial analytics firm Meshh, captures vital metrics—such as visitor footfall, dwell time, demographics, impressions, and view counts—at five‑minute intervals.

PIAMS integrates anonymised, aggregated mobile data via O2 Motion with spatial sensor analytics from Meshh to deliver live visitor statistics across the entire Outernet district. It then aligns these metrics with media screen schedules, allowing brands and venue operators to assess content performance, optimise campaign timing, and evaluate ROI with newfound precision.

According to Dan Patton, Outernet’s Director of Digital Publishing & Audience Insight, the system “tells a powerful story about how audiences move, dwell, and interact with our content in real time”—enabling smarter marketing strategies and data‑driven optimization. Caroline McGuckian, CEO of Meshh, added that after nine months of development, PIAMS delivers “extremely robust” insights because it’s based on real‑time measurements rather than estimates.

This launch positions Outernet London at the forefront of immersive media measurement, offering a template for future public analytics systems and delivering clients an actionable, data-backed toolkit.
