Record Attendance at 137th Canton Fair Highlights China's Trade Resilience​

The 137th China Import and Export Fair, commonly known as the Canton Fair, commenced on April 15, 2025, in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, marking a significant milestone in China's foreign trade sector. The event witnessed an unprecedented turnout, with 64,530 overseas buyers attending on the opening day, reflecting an 8.9% increase compared to the previous year and setting a new record for the fair.​

Spanning 1.55 million square meters, the fair features approximately 31,000 exhibitors and anticipates around 200,000 overseas buyers throughout its duration. Zhang Sihong, Deputy Director of the China Foreign Trade Centre, attributed the robust attendance to increased pre-registrations and strong hotel and flight bookings, indicating stable and high-quality growth.​

International participants, such as Andre Rocha, President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Goias, Brazil, emphasized the fair's role in providing insights into global trends and fostering industrial development. Chinese companies, including Guangdong-based Chigo Air Conditioning, showcased innovative products, highlighting China's competitive edge in quality and production scale.​

Despite global economic uncertainties, China's foreign trade demonstrated resilience, with total goods trade reaching 10.3 trillion yuan in the first quarter of 2024, a 1.3% year-on-year increase. The Canton Fair continues to serve as a vital platform for international businesses to engage with China's vast market opportunities.​
